So today I had a craving for some nachos, and I ordered the 2 Meat Nachos from my neighborhood Homemade Taqueria. I decided on the chicken and spicy pork for my two meats, no lettuce, a side of guacamole and churros for dessert. The nachos are made using the tostada shells with a layer of smashed black beans, the two meats and topped with monterey jack cheese. The spicy pork and chicken complimented each other- both were tender and juicy and the pork had the right amount of spice. Using the tostada shells is smart because it is easier to spread the black beans, proteins and cheese evenly, so every bite had all the toppings. Each tostada is then stacked and cut into 4 so you will get between 12-16 nachos depending on location. The nachos also come with pickled jalapeño peppers and pico de galo. The guacamole has a good balance of flavor-not overpowered with jalapeño, nice crunch with tomato and onion.
The churros on the other hand were bland. Even the cinnamon sugar and chocolate sauce could not give these churros flavor. Also, the churros had what appeared to be cream cheese in the middle-this was not mentioned on the menu. A detail like this is important to mention if a person has a dairy allergy or does not like cream cheese (like me).
Homemade Taqueria serves up a great nacho dish with well-balanced flavors and a clever use of tostada shells for even topping distribution. The spicy pork and chicken combination seems like a solid choice, and it’s good to hear the guacamole had a nice mix of flavors.

On the other hand, it’s unfortunate that the churros didn’t live up to expectations, especially with the surprise cream cheese filling. Clear menu descriptions are definitely important for customers with dietary preferences or allergies. Overall great nachos, bland churros but check out Homemade Taqueria with locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island.
