Harold’s New York Deli-1173 King Georges Post Rd, Edison, NJ 08837
Hello Foodies!! As a native New Yorker born and raised, there was always a discussion about who makes the best pastrami sandwich. Some will say Katz’s, Pastrami Queen or 2nd Ave Deli. In Queens maybe its Ben’s Best Deli or Butcher Block, in Brooklyn David’s Brisket House, Frankel’s or Juniors. For those that live in the Bronx and Staten Island please forgive me, I will venture there and check out some pastrami spots. This review is about Harold’s New York Deli in Edison, NJ. I heard about this spot from several friends that live in the Garden State, I had to check it out for myself and wow.
First of all, everything at Harold’s is huge-like the pictures in this review. I had the pastrami on rye with mustard on the side, my mom got the brisket on a club roll, with mustard and Russian dressing on the side. Both sandwiches came with coleslaw that was fresh and had the sweet tangy dressing which was a perfect complement to the sandwiches. Now Harold’s has something different and that is a pickle and bread bar. Let me walk you through this-the pickle bar has different types of pickles, rye bread(both seeded and unseeded), pickled tomatoes it’s freaking amazing.
Now the sandwiches are your old school kosher deli sandwiches-the right amount of spice on the pastrami and the brisket, not salty but full of flavor. Now the sandwiches in the pictures are large-can feed 2-4 people. To be honest I was able to make another sandwich out of half a sandwich, same with my mom’s brisket. It was worth the trip but you can’t leave without dessert(we took it home).
The desserts are large as well, so I got a slice of carrot cake and the slice was in its own cake box-the box for a whole cake. It was a 5 thick layer carrot cake with raisins and coconut icing. It took my husband 3 days to finish that one piece of cake and we had the pastrami for 2 ½ days-you get what you pay for(really great quality for the price).
So I highly recommend going to Harold’s New York Deli in Edison, NJ-its near the 440 from Staten Island. Check out Harold’s New York Deli at haroldsfamousdeli.com or call 732-661-9100
