Heretic is a thought-provoking psychological horror film that will make you question religion. Directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the movie stars Hugh Grant as the sinister and manipulative Mr. Reed, who traps two young Mormon missionaries (played by Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East) in his secluded home. What begins as a theological discussion about belief versus skepticism evolves into a disturbing and suspenseful ordeal.

The movie has an unsettling atmosphere-the house itself was creepy and had a Dante Inferno vibe, strong performances, and unique approach to religious horror. Hugh Grant’s portrayal of Mr. Reed was amazing. He shed his usual charming persona and morphed into something deeply menacing. The movie explores the themes of faith, control, and manipulation, with its horror rooted in psychological tension rather than gratuitous violence.

The scene involving the choice between the two ominous doors, was great between Thatcher and East as it challenged their characters faith in their religion with open-ended questions and sensational twists.

I highly recommend Heretic for fans of sophisticated psychological horror who appreciate layered storytelling and moral ambiguity.

Heretic is currently playing in theaters.
