Hello everyone, myself and M. Regan interviewed Mike Nowotarski , the guitarist from the music project, AESOP’S SOUND FABLES.

Here are excerpts from the interview:

Lenore Townsend:

“…More than interested, I actually saw some of the video clips that you guys have on Facebook as well as Instagram. And I think that what you guys are doing is very, very unique by playing silent movies and adding and in person, uh, soundtrack to the movie itself…”

Mike Nowotarski:

“…Yeah, it’s been really fun. I actually remember I was wearing this instrumental music and I took it to an open mic in Red Hook and I played it. And I was like kind of looking for like where I could play this kind of stuff and someone said to me that like that sounds like it could be in a pixar film, and I was like, hmm, like, how can I You can incorporate that it’s like a live performance and so that’s kind of like where I stem from, and it’s been really fun…”

Lenore Townsend:

“…I was really fascinated by it because it’s giving me like I would say, like the early 1920s type of vibe when people used to go to an actual movie theater cause they were really theaters. And you have the bands there, that would play the music for the cartoons. And then of course, a lot of the old silent movies, especially a lot of the Charlie Chaplin movies and The old no sparatu horror movie back in the day where all you had was just the music that drove the theme of the movie itself…”

Mike Nowotarski:

“…That’s something actually, I think I didn’t actually realize when we first started doing is that, like that’s like, actually, how it worked like there was typically like an in-house organ player or a piano player who would play along, you know? And um, yeah, yeah, I mean it’s kind of A. Loss of art, we do it in a like kind of like a very like contemporary way, there’s A handful of people around the city, who do it…”
