Happy Lunar New Year – also known and formerly known as Chinese New Year, but is now known as Lunar New Year, because the holiday is not only celebrated by the Chinese. What is Lunar New Year? It is the celebration of the New Year for those of Korean, Vietnamese and Chinese descent.
Fun Fact 1: Lunar New Year is not typically celebrated by those of Japanese, South-Asian or Filipino ethnicities.
Fun Fact 2: Gong Hei Fat Choy means Happy New Year in Cantonese – In New York, the dominant Chinese dialect is Mandarin. Mandarin is also the main dialect spoken in China.
