Somewhere in Queens, lies a hidden gem where the vibrant energy of New York City converges with the intimate charm of a close-knit community. This is Culture Lab in Long Island City, a sanctuary for those who revel in the arts, music and…comedy.

As you enter, the ambiance envelops you like a cozy blanket. Colorful artwork decorates the walls, and low lighting creates a soft glow, inviting you to relax in the mismatched chairs. The space feels both familiar and exciting.

On Thursday evening, we attended Culture Lab’s After Dark the “NICE ONE!” comedy show hosted by MIKE LEE.

Folks gathered around tables and a sofa, sharing drinks and stories, their conversations mingling before the show. Comedians took the stage, sharing their unique perspectives and life stories in a friendly setting. Their authentic performances connected with the audience through relatable experiences.

We not only enjoyed the performance on stage but also observed the stories developing around us. In the audience, there were two French strangers who found their way here and formed a bond, as well as two men from the UK who didn’t know each other but attended the show, each with a woman from a different state. Furthermore, two Russian friends were there, along with strangers in the darkness that made this show feel like an evening spent at a friend’s home.
