Romance Made the MCU…A SUCCESS!!!

In Iron Man, a romance blossomed between Tony Stark and Pepper Potts. In Thor, Thor had a romantic relationship with Jane. Dr. Strange featured a romantic subplot between Dr. Strange and Christine. Ant-Man included a romance between Scott and Hope. Captain America showcased the love story of Steve and Peggy. In Spider-Man, Peter and MJ shared a romantic connection. Black Panther had T’Challa and Nakia’s romance. Let’s not forget Guardians of the Galaxy’s Peter and Gamorra!

The success of these films established a foundation that audiences were eager to back and were excited to witness. This success paved the way for sequels and other films like Captain Marvel, which didn’t focus on romance, capturing the audience’s interest.

The Marvel films that introduced the Avengers incorporated romantic elements, appealing to a broader audience. They offered action for some viewers and romance for others, catering to diverse tastes.

However, as time went on, the romantic aspects diminished. While Marvel introduced female characters, they appeared emotionally detached and unfriendly. These characters began wearing traditionally masculine clothing, such as male-style armor and oversized outfits. It seemed as though the newer movies aimed to portray women in a more masculine light.

After Avengers:Endgame.

Removing the feminine. Female characters were allowed, provided they displayed misogynistic and arrogant traits. This formula was intended to appeal to and meet the expectations of movie audiences. However, it failed. Male viewers preferred female characters with male traits to be actual male characters, while female viewers wanted to see women portrayed as women.

AND, romance in any MCU movie after Endgame….ENDED.

Rumors circulated about a possible hint of romance in Thunderbolts, but SPOILER ALERT!!! These were merely rumors. Although some anti-romance Reddit users opposed the idea of a love story in the MCU, love and romance have consistently been popular with ticket buying audience members.

BUT WHAT ABOUT DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE?

The initial Deadpool film by Fox depicted a romantic tale between Wade and Vanessa. So, “A-HA!”

Disney and Marvel have recently stated a shift of quality over quantiy. That may not mean measuring film success to the traditional metrics of audience attendence. So we shall see…
